Salam Your Eminence,
I wanted to ask you about interracial marriages.
I am a white man and I have fallen in love with a Shia girl and we are preparing to tell her family. I am ready to convert and embrace Islam in order to make our union possible and have been doing lots of reading and research on the faith but I wanted to ask you how the community might react to someone from a non-traditional background joining the mosque and whether there are any objections in the Quran to interracial marriages?
For some background, I am a white man in his 20s and I grew up in a small town in Canada without a religion. Spirituality and faith is always something I’ve wanted to add to my life and since this girl and I have started talking, she has shared so much of the faith with me and I find it really interesting.
I know we will face a great amount of resistance from her parents/the community given our different races but I hope you can provide some guidance in overcoming these objections.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I have also been watching muharram lectures over the last few days and I can only hope that the community and religion will embrace me, as willingly as I have embraced them.
All the best,
Salamun Alaikum! Hope you are doing well. We are sorry for replying you late.
There is no restriction on interracial marriages in Islam since the husband is a Muslim. I ask Allah for you that He guides you to the truth and grant you a great life in your future. You will be warmly welcomed.
