Hello,
I am a graduate student at the City College of New York. I am currently doing a project about green burial in NYC. I would like to discuss the laws regarding burial and cemeteries. I also would like to know what Islamic law says about green burial.in our project green burial is defined as burning the body without any chemicals or embalming in a biodegradable casket.woild this be online with Muslim law and practice? Also there is an alternative option called natural organic reduction where the body is enclosed with wood chips to increase the rate of decomposition. The body is then completely decomposed within a few weeks leaving behind just soil or compost. Would this practice be allowed according to Islamic law?
I would appreciate if I could speak to someone on the phone about this. My cellphone number is 347-266-9965.
Thank you
Salamun Alaikum! Hope you are doing well. We are sorry for replying you late.
Burning the dead body is not allowed in Islamic Law. Whereas in the Shia Islamic tradition, it is recommended to place two freshly cut twigs in the
grave with the corpse. If you want to discuss more you can visit at Al-Khoei Islamic Center
